The Richness by Steve Driscoll
£9.99
Steve Driscoll’s debut book, The Richness, is the result of decades worth of planning. Driscoll first aspired to write a novel at the age of 15. Since then, he has pursued a career in social work, and having finally envisioned the concept for his novel about 10 years ago, he thus set to work on his new venture. The Richness presents the reader with a fictional story, taking place in an alternative historical timeline, chronicling events from the early 1600s to the present day. Although the text is primarily devoted to envisioning an ancestral link between himself and the Nevis-born woman he loves, Driscoll’s extensive narrative explores the varying ways in which the atrocities of the slave trade displaced so many lives, and how the repercussions are still being felt in the 21st century.

Keele's Templar Window: And the Templars Jacques De Molay & Thomas Totty by Dr. Robin Studd
£12.50
Dr Robin Studd is a retired Senior Lecturer in History and was Director of the Centre For Local History at Keele University. He has published various pieces on the thirteenth century.
Keele’s stained and painted medieval window is unique, but its location in a Victorian Gothic parish church means that until now, it has been completely overlooked. It is an example of how historical gems can still be discovered from time to time in unlikely places. The story of how it came to be, what the impact of this piece of crusading propaganda was, and why it survived to this day is told in this book, demonstrating how local, national and international history can be inextricably part of the same canvas and how the fate of the maligned and doomed Templar Order is intertwined with the
story of Keele’s window.

- The Navigator by Steve Dyster
- £10.99
The Navigator is a truly wonderful selection of fictional short stories which revolve around the extremely colourful character Job Carter. These ten tales recollect the bustling life on the West Midlands canal system, as well as the extremely adventurous life of Job Carter: whether these tales are true or merely a figment of Job's imagination we will never truly know, but it is nice to think that some, if not all of these dramatic events happened to Job, and even if they didn't they are certainly a fun read.
Steve spent many happy years as a high school teacher before leaving the profession to concentrate on his online cycling magazine: www.sevendaycyclist.com, whilst also writing an array of articles for magazines, as well as contemplating writing a few more books.

Why Delilah by John Leonard
£9.99
What national lessons can be learned from the trials and tribulations of Potteries football? This book looks at the state of professional football in England, its financing, governance, and coverage in the media through the prism of two clubs, Stoke City and Port Vale. They share the same city, Stoke-on-Trent: the smallest city in England with more than one professional club. They share contrasting fortunes in the Premier League era. Stoke City established itself in the Premier league despite being widely derided in the national media for the style of play under its former manager, Tony Pulis. It defied the odds thanks to the backing of multi-millionaire owners from local bookmakers Bet365. Meanwhile, Port Vale, a club theoretically under fan ownership, almost went out of business, needing to be bailed out by a local authority.
"A fascinating examination of the fight for survival of two football clubs , Port Vale and Stoke City, both at the heart of their community. The global success of the premier league has been phenomenal but not without a price for grassroots clubs who struggle to stay in the game. Stoke City defied the odds and its critics.... all football fans should read this book and join the debate about the future of football". (Amazon Review)

The Incredible Journey of Elliott the Eel by Jason Morgan
£5.99
Come and join Elliott the Eel on his amazing voyage and meet some of the incredible creatures he encounters over the many thousands of miles that he travels.
The reasoning behind the author (Jason Morgan) creating an illustrated children's book about the epic journey eels have to undertake, was to not only to depict eels in a different light, and move away from the notion of them being a slimy creature that people do not appreciate; but to educate children, and their parents, about the threat fresh water eels (Anguilla anguilla) are under. They are at present listed as being critically endangered, with the very real possibility of them in the future becoming extinct, if something is not done to highlight the importance of the fresh water eel and the impact pollution as well as over fishing has had upon this creature. The purpose of The Incredible Journey of Elliott the Eel is to educate future generations about the fresh water eel and hopefully prevent the extinction of this wonderful creature.

Hochi by Andrew E. Checkley
£5.99
Andrew E. Checkley is a British born writer. Today he lives in Rugby, Warwickshire, and has two sons. His books include Diary of a Moment in Time. The author says: ''the story is quite dark, but full of events and happenings.'' The book isn't his autobiography, but what it is though is a close account of some of the things that happened to him from the age of 9 to 19. His books have now set him on the road to get more of his manuscripts into print.
Hochi centres around an unknown creature called Hochi, who goes in search of his missing friend Trixie the Pixie, with the help of Alfie the elf. On his journey Hochi not only manages to explore the world of mines and caves whilst on his rescue mission, but also meets some new and lifelong friends along the way. Hochi has everything you would want in a children's story: it has mischief, adventure, the trials and tribulations of old friendships and the formation of new ones, as well as the involvement of the police, not to mention a half alien, half yeti type creature. What more could you possibly want?

Corin the Cow by Alison Brooks
Corin the Cow is a great book that both young children and their parents can enjoy together. This wonderful early childhood book has not solely been created by Alison and Sarah for entertainment purposes, but has been produced to help young children when they are first learning to read and write; enhancing their reading capabilities and helping them learn how to pronounce words phonetically, along with the use of digraphs (two letters together that make one sound). To give children the best learning experience while they are reading Alison has written various words throughout this book in green, with some lines underneath the green words – this has been done so as to give children the opportunity to have a go reading the green coloured words all by themselves as they make their way through this story.

Graham Bebbington's latest book is a biography of the Cheadle-born poet and author who died at the age of 35, having been wounded at lens in July 1917. On one level the work tells of how his ideals were severely put to the test by what he and his comrades experienced in Flanders. On another level the author gives an insight as to how the Great War affected the life of communities in North Staffordshire and sets this into the context of national events. By the author of Pit Boy to Prime Minister and Silverdale - The Five Road Ends, this new book is illustrated with many rare and hitherto unpublished photographs.
"I would strongly recommend this fascinating biography of a brave soldier who gave his life in the Great War."
"His poems, so haunting, bring to life the mud, rats, stench of death and, above all, the bravery of those thousands that went over the top."
An expert Staffordshire historian, Graham Bebbington, has brought the story of a well-known Cheadle family together with wider contemporary events to create a well-rounded and highly readable book." (Amazon Review)
"This is a well-researched biography of an unsung literary hero of the Great War, cousin of the better-known poet John Masefield. it includes extensive quotations from his own poetry and letters from the front, as well as previously unpublished photographs." (The Lady Magazine Review)

Theatres of War by William Cooke
£11.99
Theatres of War deals with three significant episodes in the history of the Midlands. The visits of Buffalo Bill to Stoke created a sensation, for he was among the most charismatic figures of his age. His Wild West, one of the most spectacular shows ever seen, was truly a theatre of war, vividly recreating such events as Custer's last stand at the Little Bighorn. Secondly, the Minnie Pit explosion of 1918 was the worst disaster in the history of coal mining in North Staffordshire. The tragedy moved the whole nation and inspired Wilfred Owen to write his poem 'Miners' in which the devastation at Halmerend became a metaphor for the carnage he had witnessed on the Western Front. The final episode covers the assassination of SS General Reinhard Heydrich in 1942 which provoked a terrible act of reprisal - the destruction of the Czech village of Lidice. In response, the defiant Lidice Shall Live campaign that originated in Stoke-on-Trent became a worldwide movement to confront and confound Nazi brutality.
"The Book is packed with nostalgia for the days of music hall .... and the reader is treated to a feast of new information." (Fred Hughes)

Scrambling to Glory by William Cooke
£9.99
Scrambling to Glory tells the momentous story of the Battle of Britain that took place in the killing skies above England from July to October 1940. Part One profiles some of the extraordinary fighter pilots connected with the central region (especially the West Midlands), including not only such notable aces as George Bennions, Michael Crossley and Eric Lock, but also lesser known participants in the nation's finest hour. Part Two gives an account of 238 Squadron's role in the battle as reflected in twelve remarkable letters written at the time by Sergeant Eric Bann, of Macclesfield, one of the conflict's unsung heroes. These letters bear witness to the pilots' supreme bravery and self-sacrifice in the struggle for survival that may have changed the whole course of the Second World War.
With "vibrant descriptions of aerial combat, the book provides local social history with the reproduction of 12 letters written by Sergeant Samuel Eric Bann .... Written to his parents, they bring to life the reality of daily events while serving in the prominent 238 squadron." (Fred Hughes)
